Audacity

1970, Bud MacIntosh Schooner, 62’ LOA

Boat Name

Built in 1970 by the legendary New Hampshire wooden boat builder David "Bud" McIntosh — a craftsman whose work is celebrated among wooden boat enthusiasts worldwide — this 62-foot schooner is a rare opportunity to own a piece of living maritime history.

With copper rivet-fastened mahogany hull planking over oak frames, varnished teak cap rails, and spruce spars stepped on keel, Audacity is a testament to the art of traditional boatbuilding. She is schooner-rigged with a Marconi mainsail and gaff-headed foresail, and her bronze hardware throughout speaks to the quality and care of her construction and maintenance.

Below decks, three distinct living areas offer comfortable cruising accommodations: a forward workspace with head, a generous main cabin with settee berths and a well-equipped galley featuring both a kerosene Shipmate stove and a wood/coal burning stove, and an aft cabin with navigation station and quarter berths. She is ready for extended blue-water passages or coastal cruising in equal measure.

Power comes from a reliable Westerbeke/Perkins 4-236 85HP diesel, with 150 gallons of fuel capacity and Edson worm-gear steering complemented by both an Autohelm 6000 autopilot and an Aries wind vane — serious offshore capability in a classic package.

Recent work includes aft fuel tank refurbishment (2022), a stainless steel freshwater tank (2012), and keel bolt replacement (2005). Audacity is currently being stored for the season at Belmont Boatworks and is ready for her next chapter of sailing joy.

Interior Layout and Accommodations
Work Space Cabin

Furthest forward is open access to  ground tackle locker with work space area immediately aft with tool storage, bench and vise. Marine toilet / Head, pump and holding tank also located to port in workspace area followed by a sitting, storage area to port, hanging lockers to starboard and bookshelves on one the foreword bulkheads.

Main Cabin
Next aft is the main cabin, with settee berths (port and starboard) along with storage lockers located outboard and above the bunks.  The starboard settee can be widened with an insert to create a double berth. A dining table, with storage and folding leaves is centered between the two settees.
Continuing aft in the Main Cabin is the Galley Area with a porcelain sink (aft) provided with both fresh and salt water via dedicated hand pumps. Cooking maybe done on either a 3-burner Shipmate kerosene stove and oven located to port and forward in the Galley Area or by use of a Shipmate wood / coal burning stove with oven both located outboard of the galley counter and sink. Opposite (to starboard) of the stoves and sink is a large well-insulated, under-counter ice box  and galley pantry locker and continuing aft (along the starboard side) is the passageway to the aft cabin.

Aft Cabin
Navigation station located forward and to port in the Aft Cabin with hanging and storage lockers to starboard. The main engine is located on center line between the navigation station (to port) and lockers (to starboard) with the top of the engine box making for a comfortable seat either to attend to the ship’s navigation or a place to don your sea boots before venturing up the companionway (aft) to the cockpit.
Finally there are quarter berths (port and starboard) towards the aft end of the Aft Cabin with storage lockers above and outboard of the berthing spaces.
