BROOKLIN BOAT YARD NEWS - September 2004
Aphrodite
Work on the restoration of “Aphrodite” is progressing nicely. At the time of this writing the last of the original frames have been replaced with new frames and interior longitudinal stringers are going into place. Once these new stringers are in place, new floors will be installed and planking of the new hull form will begin. Remaining as true as possible to the original scantlings of the boat, new planking will be Philippine mahogany, double planked and cooper riveted to white oak frames.

Goshawk
The “Goshawk” project is a unique collaboration between Brooklin Boat Yard and Rockport Marine. Because of a backlog of existing work Brooklin Boat Yard was unable to start construction of this boat early enough to be able to meet the owners desired launching date. As fate would have it Rockport Marine had an open spot in their schedule so construction of the hull and keel attachment was handed off to Taylor Allen, John England and the crew of Rockport Marine.
On September 2nd “Goshawk” in her unfinished state was launched at Rockport Marine and towed to Brooklin Boat Yard where she was hauled and moved into the Main Shop for completion of construction.
“Goshawk” will be sharing the main shop area with “Aphrodite” so anyone visiting Brooklin Boat Yard over the winter of '04-'05 will have a terrific opportunity to see both state of the art new boat construction and classic yacht restoration work on a grand scale.
