BROOKLIN BOAT YARD NEWS - Spring 2007
Yard Happenings
With summer hot on our heels, Brooklin Boat Yard is a hopping place these days. Bottoms are being faired and painted, spars are being rigged and stepped, the new hydraulic trailer and travel lift are constantly on the go and winter service projects are nearing completion in time for the owner’s arrivals. An addition for this year is a new hydraulic trailer that allows us to quickly move boats from storage to service facilities and to more efficiently use the space available to work on boats over the winter. By example, at one point this past season the paint bay was filled with GERANIUM (Buzzards Bay 25), PETUNIA (Center Harbor 31), ANNE (Herreshoff Alerion), Firefly (Haven 12 ?) plus a smattering of Beetle Cats tucked in the corners.
Launchings
New boat construction has also been in high gear this past winter. Scheduled for launching this season are 4 new boats.
ANNA
ANNA a Sparkman Stephens designed 56’ sloop has at the time of this writing moved from the Main Shop to the paint shop for completion to emerge gleaming sometime just prior to her scheduled launching on June 6. ANNA will make her public debut at this year's Wooden Boat Show in Mystic, CT, (June 28 July 1) and then will be racing in many of the classic yacht regattas this summer.

MARJORIE
The Bob Stephens designed 59’ offshore cruising ketch MARJORIE is still in the Main Shop at this time and work continues at a rapid pace with much of her interior and systems work completed and cabin house still to be built. MARJORIE does not yet have a firm launching date but it’s looking like she’ll be able to hit the water sometime this fall with enough time to shake her down before the snow falls. Undecided at this time but MARJORIE may travel down to the Chesapeake Bay after sea trials; in any event she will be well tested and ready for participation in the 2008 Newport to Bermuda Race.
EIGHT BELLS
These days it seems like most of the new construction projects at Brooklin Boat Yard tends toward the large size (in fact, our next project will be a 90’ world cruising yawl) but occasionally smaller projects enter into the picture. This is the case with EIGHT BELLS, a cold-molded version of the venerable Boothbay Harbor One-Design quietly under construction up on the third floor of the Main Shop. Plans call for EIGHT BELLS to launch sometime in July.

GINGER
As if the new boat production crews didn’t have enough to do, construction began in December of 2006 on a Bob Stephens designed, 50’ Spirit of Tradition Daysailer. The crew at Brooklin Boat Yard is hard at work on GINGER as it is hoped that she will be launched and commissioned in time for a racing debut in the Maine Classic Yacht and Eggemoggin Reach Regattas.
