MISCHIEF, 1927 HERRESHOFF S-BOAT
The MISCHIEF project is at the brink of completion. As of this writing the 1927 Herrshoff S-Boat is in the water with mast stepped and sails bent on ready for her sailing trials. Once that’s completed she’ll be hauled out, unstepped, given a final topsides painting, packed up and shipped down to Newport RI where she will join the very active Narragansett Bay S-Boat fleet.

MISCHIEF ready to sail

VIXEN 1937 KNUD REIMERS 15 SQ METER SLOOP
This boat was purchased sight unseen by a client who had already had a very succesfull restoration experience with Brooklin Boat Yard that being the total restoration of KATRINKA.
While not always advisable to purchase a boat without even seeing it the client figured VIXEN had to be in at least OK shape as she had recently taken part in the Uffa Fox Challenge Race from England to Sweden.
Sitting in Sweden VIXEN was packed into a shipping container and arrived here at Brooklin Boat Yard in late July 2011 with just enough time to get her rigged & launched for the Maine Classic Yacht Regattas & Eggemoggin Reach Regatta.
As of this writing almost all of VIXEN‘s frames have been replaced and replanking (where needed) is soon to be underway. Her decks will be replaced and a new house will be constructed.
Along with all this her running rigging layout will be modified so that most of her halyards & sail shape control lines will be lead under deck.
Plans are for VIXEN to be sailing this summer and possibly racing again in the ERR.

2 NEW BOATS SET FOR LAUNCHING IN SPRING 2012
Over the course of the winter of 2011-2012 designers and builders here at BROOKLIN BOAT YARD have been busy with 2 projects (1 power & 1 sail)

LARK, 47' Spirit of Tradition Sloop

LARK, 47′ SPIRIT OF TRADITION SLOOP
The soon to be new owner of LARK went out for a sail on an earlier Bob Stephens / Brooklin Boat Yard collaboration LENA and liked it so much he wanted a boat just like it. However as these things go the original LENA design has been tweaked to add greater performance with a deeper, shorter cord length keel, a taller more powerfull sail plan and bit’s and pieces here and there.
Set for a June launching LARK will participate in the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta and Downeast Race Weekend.

LARK under construction

26′ JET DRIVE LAUNCH
Like the above mentioned LARK the other new construction project currently under way is an adaptation of an earlier Brooklin Boat Yard project. In this case the (still unamed) jet drive launch being built is based on another Bob Stephens / Brooklin Boat Yard collaboration PANDL. Also like the LARK project the new boat has been modified from the earlier model in that while PANDL had an open transom this new boat has a closed transom with access door. Also scheduled for a June launching this new boat will be seen mostly on Blue Hill Bay.

BROKERAGE ACTIVITY ON THE UPSWING
We don’t know what it is, either the unseasonally warm weather of March or that people are saying “the economy be damned” but brokerage activity has picked up considerably for 2012.
Recently SONNY (built by BBY 2000) changed hands and will be doing a complete refit with the yard. NATASHA II (Ericson 38) is under contract and there seems to be significant interest in our “trade-in” boats DUCK SOUP (York 36) and GINGER (BBY 2007) along with all of our other listings which can be seen on Yachtworld by clicking on BOATS FOR SALE.
Along with this activity there are some new listings that as yet have not been featured here in the news section of our website and there have been some price changes to other listings.

NEW LISTINGS

ARROW

ARROW is a 32′ LOD Modern Classic Clipper Yawl with styling reminiscent of Herreshoff’s Araminta but with a more modern underwater configuration (fin/bulb keel & balanced spade rudder) and carbon fiber spars clad in traditional varnished spruce. Built in 1999 by Brion Rieff’s Boat Shop here in Brooklin, ARROW has been lightly used during the summer months and lovingly maintained during the off-season. Located here in Brooklin the asking price for ARROW is $160,000 which is a fraction of her replacement value.

Those of you who follow the all too infrequent updating of the Brooklin Boat Yard website news will recall occasional mentions of the off-again / on-again restoration of the 1926 Herreshoff S-Boat, Mischief.

With the coming of a buyer for the boat and the restoration project this work has been going full steam and will soon be completed. At this point in time her decks and house have been completed, her new mast and rigging has been stepped to ensure proper fit come spring and finish paint / varnish work is well underway. We plan to finish up work on Mischief in early 2012 and place her into storage were she will wait for the spring 2012 sailing season. Once the warm weather arrives the plan is to launch her (unstepped) as early as possible and let her swell up before stepping the mast, tuning the rig, bending on the sails and taking her out for trials.

After trials Mischief will travel down to Newport RI where her new owner plans to daysail and compete in the Narragansett Bay S-Boat fleet races
