Legend- a 38’ Recreation of Ernest Hemingway’s “Pilar” designed by Wheeler Yachts
This new Wheeler 38 was built by Brooklin Boat Yard and launched in September of 2021.
Legend is a copy of Ernest Hemingway’s beloved Pilar, his sportfishing boat that he had built by Wheeler Shipyard in 1934. Legend has been re-created from historic documents retained by the Wheeler Family.
While she looks like Pilar, the new Wheeler 38 bristles with high technology under her svelte skin. From her incredibly strong cold-molded hull and deck to her iPad and iPhone system controls, this is an heirloom-quality yacht for the ages.
A pair of diesels drive the boat efficiently at speeds up to 26 knots.
Air conditioning, autopilot, Seakeeper, gyro stabilizer, diesel generator, refrigeration and the latest touch-screen marine electronics reside out of sight but are instantly available. There is no other yacht of her size available today that combines the timeless Wheeler elegance with such well-integrated luxuries.
